China Association of Private Equity (“CAPE”) is a voluntary union and non-profit organization, jointly establishedby private equity industry players. CAPE provides services for all kinds offunds, management and agency organizations that are registered across China, with the aim to promote the success and development of the private equityindustry in China. Cathay Associates (“柯杰全球法律联盟” in Chinese) is a global legal service network initiated and founded by Cathay Associates Kejie, a leading Chinese boutique law firm and two European partners with the aim to provide holistic legal services for ambitious Chinese enterprises for their outbound investment and M&A. Cathay Associatesincludes 13 other member law firms from major cities in Europe and Asia.

In September and October, 2013, during China’s President Xi Jinping’s visit in Middle and Southeast Asian countries,he initiated a joint effort to build “Silk Road Economic Belt” and “21st Century Maritime Silk Road” (“The Belt and Road”), drawing a lot of public attention at the international arena. As “The Belt and Road” policy, a national strategy, is being developed further, more and more Chinese enterprises will expand their business overseas. In this context, CAPE and Cathay Associatesjointly organize this talk series entitled “The Belt and Road” and Investment Talk (European Series): from the Spanish, Polish, Romanian and Hungarian Perspectives.

In this talk series, Ms. Cao Lei,Partner at Cathay Associates Kejie, will share her unique insights andexperiences in the practical issues in Chinese enterprises’ outbound investmentand M&A activities. Partners from the European member firms of CathayAssociates (i.e. Spain, Poland, Romania and Hungary) will analyze in detailsthe policies of their countries respectively, including industrial policies,governmental supervision and approval procedures, investors’ legal structures,tax and rewards policies, Chinese workers’ visa issues, foreign exchangecontrol, investment protection and dispute resolution, etc..
